Turkey votes for Christmas!

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Bob Jones has criticised the posts, saying they have done nothing for police accountability. The comments come a year on since the directly elected PCCs took up their jobs across England and Wales. He said £100m had been “spent so far on making police accountability less effective”.In a statement, Police Minister Damian Green said Mr Jones’s claims had “no basis in fact”.

Lol…

  1. Meanwhile, in Norfolk, they have had their own squall over travelling expenses claimed by their PCC.
Stephen Bett came under fire after he was found to have claimed for 70 trips from his home in Thornham to his HQ 43 miles away in Wymondham from November 2012 to August 2013.

Mr Bett racked up a £3,024 bill for the trips, with critics saying he should not have been claiming back the money for journeys to his place of work.

But he reacted by saying he will pay back the money so as not to tarnish the reputation of Norfolk policing
Small echoes of HMG’s own past claims.

  2. So ‘Sir’ Tom Winsor properly paid his respects to the fallen yesterday. I know to some I may seem churlish, but I still believe personally that he would have been better served and appreciated, had he done so dressed in appropriate civilian clothes and not his ‘dressing up pseudo police outfit’. I have known too many officers, now gone, who paid dearly to wear police uniform and I would not have the least one of them belittled by it being worn inappropriately.
Like I say others may disagree with me as is their right.

    • No SP, I am with you on this one. The politicians and political appointees do not lay the wreaths for the fallen sailors, soldiers and airmen, that is, very properly, left to the professional heads of their services, so it should be for police………….., but if Winsor really had to do it, then a smart dark suit would have filled the bill properly and not made my blood boil.

    • SP, have been told about a Police Officer being so angry at Tom Winsor’s wearing of his ‘ceremonial’ uniform at the Cenotaph that he has sent him a copy of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” with an explanatory letter. Others are apparently printing off posters of the film and sending them. If this catches on, the Post Office could make even more profit this year.

    • I was at The Cenotaph myself and watched a number of friends and colleagues take part in the march past with dignity and pride, while I remembered absent friends. Winsor’s is a fancy dress costume, nothing more, nothing less. He makes my fucking teeth itch.

  3. Meanwhile back at the ranch………
Police Commissioner plans to raise funds through sponsorship
Police cars, uniforms and equipment could carry sponsors’ logos to raise money for the force under a plan unveiled by Police Crime Commissioner David Lloyd.
The idea for businesses to advertise through the force and even have products officially endorsed by Hertfordshire Constabulary was first proposed in Mr Lloyd’s Police and Crime Plan.
In the plan, Mr Lloyd writes: “The strong commercial brands based in, or operating within Hertfordshire may see business sense in collaborating with me on a range of direct sponsorship and corporate responsibility ventures.

    Words fail me!

    • Wait I see it all now. Maybe we could run a competition to find the best Doughnut Baker and through this means raise funds to sponsor a Nissan Micra to replace Ruralshires’ Chief’s staff car. Inspector Gadget would volunteer his help I’m sure.
      SP.

      • How about the local jeweller sponsoring the Domestic Violence Team car. It could have the logo, “A bruise will fade in a week or so, but a diamond is forever”. How can it go wrong?

      • Would they allow a firm specialising in actions against the police to advertise on patrol cars?

Is that not what the Mafia do; “Sponsor a policechief?”

Have you got a link for that?

  6. This isn’t sponsorship, it’s partnerships,
That wasn’t a bung or a bribe, the money was just resting in my bank account.
We don’t do favours , the police escort blue light run, was because the local business leaders car and Hyundaiuxall dealership owner car broke down and since they provide our fleet it was the least we could do to ensu they got to the masonic lodge on time.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the sweet sweet smell of corruption.

  7. Bob Jones seems like an honourable bloke.

    • He’ll be for the chop faster than an MP can submit an expenses claim

    • The problem is that the majority of those appointed are ‘ honourable blokes’ but with a few exceptions they are amatuers when it comes to matters of policing. This leaves us with an HMIC and a newly formed college extending non practical influence on the ‘service’ at a national level.
urged on by politicians with their graphs and flow charts. And forty odd ‘honourable blokes’ tinkering with the ‘job’ at a more local level.
Meanwhile Plod soldiers on trying to stitch things together with poor equipment and laughable management.
Those in power have dismantled ‘the police’ and are now reassembling it in their own image. A case of baby and bath water.

      • Bob Jones was former chair of the Police Authority in the area he’s now PCC – and former chair of the Association of Police Authorities…no fool or innocent, this man! And – he seems to agree wit you!

  8. In my mind I can see Sir Robert spinning . I feel they’ve undone every thing he implemented and destroyed the Police Force. We are now back to Policing before Sir Robert Peel .

  9. You mean we get to have a Militia on horse back?

  10. You remind me of Cpl Jones in Dad’s Army.

  11. Or, you could go on Twitter and ask him? I’m sure he’d be erm, ‘delighted’ to hear from you!

How many ‘books’ did you sell at your signing? I hate to go on about it, it’s just that BE and I sort of had a bet…!?

  12. Incidentally, Mince, I spose we should ask – rude not to really.
Did you just wander off off your own accord, or did you get erm.. detained somewhere? And are you , well… expected back there soon? I expect they’ll worry…

  13. Thing is unless he comes on here we rarely hear from you Cor!

  14. I check daily… just chip in when I can. I don’t fancy Twitter yet, as I use my own name on there and haven’t worked out how to go by another name…

  15. Dorset’s ex-Met/Surrey D.C.I. Martyn Underhill reveals the cost to Police of caring for disturbed prisoners out of hours, like NOW for instance, P.O.E.T.S. day. http;//t.co/lpHgyxRPnI

  16. “the alley outside at the back of the shops I live above”

Mince, yer truly livin’ the dream.

  17. Everything that’s wrong with society from all sides, neatly packaged in Lances prose,
The truly disparaging thing is I don’t know who I feel sorry for more, the crim or the DM reader.

Still soon be Xmas and the chief will be out to make his yearly unnecessary ,disproportionate and borderline unlawful arrest……..to show us minions how its done.
I truly despair at the quality and quantity of pisspoor primary investigations and arrests purely on the strength of an allegation of crime.
Still, as we are no longer measured on figures and cops aren’t hounded into making arrests due to policies, I’m sure the cells won’t be full of NFA domestics and sec 5poa’s.
    ……………………..i’ll get my coat

  18. Lance,
Why do you have to be so offensive?

    • Hava Nagila…!

    • I tell you what you could do to relieve the boredom, it seems to work with my letters. Put them all in the wrong boxes, then put a card through saying what you have done and could the recipient please re deliver them. I find this really easy cos all my neighbours have numbers on their houses.

  19. Has Inspr. Gadget. resumed his patrol/supervision of the ridiculous.
Please let it be so. All correct Sarge.

  20. What’d he say? What’d he say??!

  21. Naughty shiji, you deleted lances posts.since i lost my copy of one flew over cuckoos nest, seeing lances diatribes is the only free way i can peer into the asylum.

And he hadnt even mentioned his next krav maga grading…

  22. So the great and the good are foaming at the mouth again having been informed that Crime Stats are in the main, figments of certain individuals imagination. Oh, shock! Horror! Gadget and others were continually saying this, I wrote about it myself in an article as long ago as 2006 and even then it was old news.
But tell me do, who actually has the last word regarding crime classification and who produces these stats and publishes them?
It certainly isn’t the copper on the streets, such number as there are these days. Those who benefit from cooking the books can usually be found in nice warm offices doing their master’s bidding. It is those who have to justify their own actions to keep their positions, that juggle the figures. The officer up to his neck in crap, is hardly thinking about stats whilst he is dealing with the flotsam of life.
But just watch and wait and see where the blame will come to rest and who will be called on to be responsible.
It won’t be anyone above superintendent or anyone warming his arse in the Palace of Westminster’s committee rooms.
    Hey Ho!
    SP.

  24. Judging by the above, my machine has indigestion, still, you can’t get too much of as good thing can you?
    SP.

    • SP , spot on.
It’s not just crime figures, it’s every measurable stat, arrests, prisoners, workload etc. All are being used/bet/distorted and blatantly lied about to justify ‘austerity’ measures and cuts to staffing at the sharp end.
Minimum staffing levels are the norm, but the workload and expectations are higher. but I still don’t see a decrease in the numbers of those wearing crisp white shirts and I don’t see them skipping lunch every day to keep the wheel 0n.
it really has come to the point where those that can, DO and those that can’t, LEAD (from behind a desk and by e-mail)

      • You know when management have lost the plot , when a Supt expects you to lie to them because that’s what they do to the ACC?????

amazing how when the ACC/chief/Pcc come calling we’re always fully staffed.
